Sunday Serenity

Happy Father’s Day!

To both those who are fathers and those who have been there for kids who have needed a positive male influence in their lives;

Thank you.

Fatherhood/Guidance-hood, isn’t just about biology.

There have been, throughout my life, men who have inspired and encouraged me, My dad, my grandfather, a couple youth leaders at various churches I attended, teachers, neighbors, guys who are just decent guys trying to do their best. Some of them have NO idea how positively they influenced my life, some of them do know, because I told them.

So go tell an inspiring dude (whether he’s a father or not), how inspiring they’ve been to you and have a great day!

This song reminds me of both my dad and my husband (who is an awesome father)!

Sunday Snippage

Ok, I don’t have a full flash fiction, just a little snippage from a project so far down the road I don’t see myself writing on it for a few years at the least. But this snip is just… I dunno it calls to me :P.

She leaned against him, trying to catch her breath. One close call after another was taking its toll. She wanted to sleep, to make it all go away, to wake up in Citadel in her own bed. She fought tears and fear. His arm around her shoulder brought into sharp relief, he was holding her. She looked up at him, and felt it again, the shift between them. His body stilled though he didn’t look away. He reached up hesitantly, pushed her hair from her face. So tender it almost made her want to cry. He took a deep breath, dropped his arm and stepped back, turning and striding back towards the campfire.

Ivonova closed her eyes, fighting embarrassment and a bit of indignation. She followed him, trying to replay the moment.

“Why did you walk away from me?” She asked, quietly. He knelt beside his bags, fiddling for something. “Have I done something wrong?”

“No.” His voice sounded rough.

“Am I displeasing to you?” She whispered. His shoulders hunched, he half turned, looking at her with those over intense eyes. She stepped back.

“No. But I am your guardian. Appointed by the gods. Nothing more.” He turned back tucking something into his bag. “Never anything more.”

She knelt beside him resting her arm on his shoulder, feeling him tense. “I’m sorry.”

“You have no reason to apologize Ivonova.”

“You must be lonely.” She stood, meeting his gaze. Startled, then guarded. She forced a smile. “Where do we go from here?”

Have a good day folks.

Sunday Serenity

We’re having a Tolkein weekend. Watched The Hobbit yesterday, may watch the whole trilogy today. People seem to either love or hate Tolkein. I, personally love it, with all its faults and wordiness. I love the books and the movies. It doesn’t bother me that the movies are not exact and to the books. Both have their own merit. Both hold a special place in my heart. Today, go do something that makes you happy, something that gives you pleasure. Have a peaceful day.

All that is gold does not glitter.
Not all those who wander are lost.
The old that is strong does not wither.
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken.
A light from the shadows shall spring.
Renewed shall be blade that was broken.
The crownless again shall be king.
J.R.R. Tolkien

Sunday Serenity

As we move into another week, it is a good time today to reflect on the past week. This past week was brutal for many of us. Emotional, stressful. As we go into another week, try to find the glints of silver. There is always good, even if you sometimes have to search hard to find it.

As a writer I tend to write epicish, broad, good vs evil stories. Good triumphs over evil. The princess rescues prince charming, and though they go through hell things always.get.better. I look at life the same way. Somehow, someway, things will get better. I wouldn’t be able to survive in this world without that firmly held belief.

Someone* on Facebook shared this.

There is good in this world. Don’t ever forget that.

Have a peaceful day, my dears.

*Someone who I highly respect. A man who has had a horrible year, and while he has had his tough times, one of the most remarkable things (in my opinion) about him is that while he admits his shortcomings and the pain he is going through, he is also looking forward, moving towards a future that while uncertain, he is determined to make it good. I think we can all learn from his example. Keep having hope.
